This is the opening phrase of the Second Amendment to our Constitution. “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” In my naiveté, regarding law and politics, I question how essential is a Militia in modern metropolises and wonder why it is not more prominently, if at all, brought up in the current debate on gun control.
